Starting and Turning off the Computer
When you use your computer, it is very important to go through the proper procedures for starting and turning off your computer. The computer needs time to go through the process of starting up and shutting down.
Starting the computer

To turn on your computer, press the on-off
buttons on your CPU
case and on your monitor.
Be patient while the computer boots up. Wait to start using your computer until
the hourglass has disappeared.
To
Log on, click your name and type in
your password in the text box. It will appear on the Welcome screen when you
start your computer.
Turning off the computer
To turn off the computer, click on the Start button that is on the left side of
the task bar.

Make sure that all programs and windows
are closed before you shut down your computer.
After clicking
on the Start button
, click on
Turn Off Computer.

A dialog box like the one below will open and you will have three choices:
Turn Off:
This option completely shuts down the power to your computer.
Stand by: This
option saves energy and lets you come back to where you were working.
Restart:
This option lets you exit Windows when it is necessary, but it restarts the
computer. Sometimes you need to restart the computer after installing
programs or hardware.
Logging
off the computer
Instead
of turning off your computer, you can log off or switch user. To log off the
computer, click on the Start button that is on the left side of the task
bar.
After
clicking on the Start button
,
click on Log Off. You have two
choices:
Practice
shutting down your computer. After clicking Start and Shut Down, notice the
choices. Try CTRL + ALT + DELETE on your keyboard. After looking at the dialog
box that appears, click the Cancel button.
